UK Government’s Warm Homes Plan
Swift Renewables welcomes UK Government’s Warm Homes Plan
The UK Government has announced its ambitious Warm Homes Plan, aimed at accelerating the nation’s transition to energy-efficient homes while tackling rising energy costs. The plan will focus on retrofitting older properties, boosting the adoption of renewable heating solutions, and increasing financial support for households to reduce their carbon footprint.
With a £2 billion funding package, the plan will provide grants and low-cost financing options for home insulation, solar energy installations, and heat pump systems. It also sets a target to upgrade 1 million homes by 2030, significantly cutting emissions and energy bills for families across the country. Other news includes an increase in the annual budget available for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme as well as removing obsticles such as planning requirements in order to speed up the process of heat pump installations. Changes to the permitted development rules include;
- Remove the 1m boundary rule, enabling heat pumps to be installed within 1m of the property boundary.
- Increase the size limit of the heat pump for dwellinghouses from 0.6m3 to 1.5m3.
- Double the number of heat pumps permitted, from one to two for detached dwelling houses.
- Support the rollout of air-to-air heat pumps that can also provide a cooling function.
The final update is the news of a potential grant for homeowners looking to install solar panels on their home. With discussions of grants for energy poor households and low interest loans for higher income households.
