BUS Heat Pump Applications Rise
Applications for the UK’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) have tripled in the past year, according to new government data, indicating growing public interest in energy-efficient home heating solutions. The scheme, launched in May 2022, offers grants to homeowners and landlords in England and Wales to replace old gas boilers with low-carbon heating alternatives such as heat pumps and biomass boilers.
The sharp increase in applications is attributed to heightened awareness of environmental sustainability and rising gas prices, which have made renewable energy options more appealing. Increased financial incentives and improved installation processes have also contributed to the scheme’s success, as the government pushes to meet its net-zero emissions target by 2050.
“Replacing traditional heating systems with green alternatives is essential in tackling the climate crisis,” said a representative from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. “We’re encouraged by the response and remain committed to supporting households in this transition.”
The surge in applications underscores a growing trend toward sustainable home heating, as the UK aims to reduce household carbon footprints and improve energy efficiency nationwide.
