Ken Hill House
The Project.
We were contacted by a highly experienced Somerset builder to assist with the renovation of an old Cottage in Somerset. The owner wanted to remodel the home into a brilliant example of eco-living, proving that heat pumps can work wherever they’re installed.
The property required a full package of works, from underfloor heating for the ground and first floor as well as hot and cold plumbing pipework and of course the heat pump and cylinder to go with it.
The Solution.
We designed a solution that included the full package of works, starting with new hot and cold water pipework thoughout the house, complete with a secondary return system to ensure instant hot water delivery. The underfloor heating for the ground floor was installed on top of 125mm of insulation board using a clip track system fro screeded underfloor heating systems whilst we designed and installed a routed chipboard system for the first floor with each room having its own thermostat for control.
The Heat Pump.
Heat loss calcs showed a heat pump size of 12kW was sufficient to heat the property, we selected the Vaillant Arotherm Plus as we felt it would complement the older features of the home as well as fit in with the modern aspects being added during the renovation. The Arotherm Plus also runs efficiently and quietly, something we felt was important in a secluded and quiet area of Somerset.
Value.
The overall project value came in at around £31k and despite the fact that we were appointed by the main contractor, as it is classed as a renovation project being funded by the homeowner they were able to claim the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, significantly reducing their capital costs and making it easier to make the shift towards low carbon heating.
